TOP FIVE THINGS TO GET YOU STARTED AS A FREELANCE WEB DESIGNER

Being a freelance web designer has its perks.  A Freelance web designer can work without bosses.  They can work when they want to; they have the freedom to either take on projects if they want or refuse if they don’t.  Unfortunately, like any other field, being a freelance web designer has its own share of drawbacks too. What young web designers should realize is that, since freelance web designers operate alone, they are often left to start their career and work out their professional development on their own.  If you are one of those young web designers who are thinking about starting a career as a freelance web designer, one drawback you would probably have to anticipate would be not knowing how to start the career that you have in mind.

Anyone aspiring to start a career as a freelance web designer should realize that there are several questions he or she may be asked while trying to establish his or her client base.

The Question Of Experience

It is a known fact that clients are more likely to trust web designers with established names already.  Thus, a freelance web designer should be patient to answer questions regarding experiences, previous works and work portfolios.  A freelance web designer should consider targeting individual clients first while building a name for him/herself as individual clients are less particular on web designing experiences.   Once a freelance web designer has gathered enough freelancing experience, he can start taking on the corporate clientele.

 Building A Portfolio

Before deciding to hire you for a web designing project, clients – individual or corporate - would always want to see your sample works as, otherwise, they will have no way of knowing whether you are indeed capable of delivering what they may require from you.  As a freelance web designer, make sure that you have several sample sites on different types of client needs.  Furthermore, make sure that these sample sites are actually live and with functioning links.

The Process of Designing

It is inevitable that although some clients would leave the job of designing and developing their sites to you, some clients would require you to explain the basic process of web designing to them before actually deciding to hire you for the project.  These clients feel that they can trust you more if you, as a freelance web designer, are transparent enough to explain the process of web designing to them and if you are willing to answer questions about the whole process.  Therefore, if you are planning a career as a freelance web designer, make sure that you can explain web designing to your clients in brief, layman’s terms.
